Before coming to Tulane, I thought that moving to New Orleans would be a monumental, life changing experience. I wanted to document every single bit of it because I wish I had documented the move from Naperville, IL to Newnan, GA. I enlisted members of a Tulane Facebook Group to help me come up with a bucket list for me to complete by the end of the year and document with a blog, coined New Orleans Newbie. Boy, was I ambitious…and wrong.
Judging by the fact that you’ve never heard of that world famous blog, you can probably guess that it was a flop. The only thing that I was right about was that moving to Tulane was life changing… so much so that I never had time to document any of it.
If you’re open to it, New Orleans will teach you about yourself, but if you want to hide from who you really are, the city will help you do that, too.

Moving to New Orleans was life changing in the fact that I really did learn about who I really am. I learned how to be my own happiness, how to connect with people over real things, how to have my own opinions. I found that I no longer become involved in things because I feel like I have to, but because I truly want to. I realized that I can actually be creative sometimes and that I still am as in love with singing as when I started. I made friends that I know will stick around forever and memories that will hopefully do the same.
I ended up crossing a lot of things off my bucket list un-intentionally. I’m actually glad I didn’t follow through with the first blog attempt. I wouldn’t have been as present for everything. Maybe I’ll blog about it all one day…that’s ambitious.
Besides, if I hadn’t failed with my first blog attempt, I wouldn’t have started this blog that will most likely eventually fail….
