The Importance of a Girl Gang

Or any {nonviolent} gang for that matter.

In my last post, I promised that a dorm tour would be coming soon. The lack of said dorm tour may have you wondering what’s been up; let me tell you, a LOT has been up.

Life has been an absolute whirlwind since I returned to Tulane for Sophomore year and I finally have time to sit down, process my thoughts, and type them out. Moving in, getting ready for classes, personal issues, and even a dorm flood have kept me from writing. I honestly can’t think of a time period in my life where I have been more stressed. Some days, it felt like the universe was trying to get me to quit. This post is not supposed to be an invitation to my own personal pity party, but I just needed to let you guys know some of the context before I get to my point.

Honestly this was me, just trying to get through the motions, during my first first few weeks back.

I can confidently tell you that I am 100% okay now. Things have settled down. My room doesn’t have water pouring in through the baseboards every time it rains anymore. I am still overjoyed to be in New Orleans, at Tulane, and learning how to adult. Looking back on this, I realized that with each stressful or upsetting situation, I had one constant in my life: friends.

I have been so lucky to have such amazing friends throughout my entire life, but I don’t think I have ever appreciated them enough. My friends, or girl gang, as I’ve often referred to them, saved me these past few weeks. Wether it was suffering through the dorm flood together, bringing me food, dancing with me at parties when we didn’t want to deal with boys, or even going to mass, my friends at Tulane had my back through everything.  My friends from home have texted, called, and even sent surprise packages. I thank God every day for the people He put in my life.

Shoutout to my guy friends. I know this post is pretty centered around the idea of a girl gang, but you are amazing as well. You may not have a girl gang, you may have a group of guys or a coed squad, but I just want to stress the importance of finding your people. My people have always and will always be there for me, and I hope I can do the same for them.

I am so lucky to have and get to love the wonderful humans in my tribe.

I just want to finish by saying that I am truly thankful for EVERY friend of mine. I know my people will always be there for me. That being said, I want everyone to know that I can always be there whenever you are in need of a person. Always be on the lookout for someone who might not be having the best day. It doesn’t take much to try and brighten their mood, but it can mean SO much.

I highly recommend sending empowering snapchats from Cosmo or Buzzfeed, like this one, every morning.

Here are some life updates:

  • I am so excited to be a brand ambassador for Flying Fox! This New Orleans based handbag company specializes in clear, stadium-friendly purses! They come in awesome colors, are made in the USA, and are perfect for college football and NFL games! Let me know if you’d like more information.
  • I’ve been obsessed with KREWE du Optic for quite some time now. I am excited to announce that I will begin working there this weekend. If you’re ever in the New Orleans area and are in need of some super fly sunglasses, let me know!
  • Giant pandas are no longer endangered!!!! I am so happy that my spirit animal is finally a stable species!
  • I freaked out this weekend because I thought I wasn’t an Aquarius anymore, but apparently I still am. All is well with the world.

I promise I’ll put together a dorm post soon! Ariana and I are waiting for our rug to come back from the dead!
